CATALYST FOR CHANGE
Catalyst For Real Movement: With the proceeds from this film, I’d like to support and expand existing palliative projects that enable children to go home if they choose to do so in cases where their death is inevitable. Palliative care for children is not just medicine, it’s listening to what children need and want. It’s also taking care of the caretakers of these children in their homes, meaning the parents and families. I took care of Olivia myself in her last four months at home in Milan. I had support from a few friends who could stand her transformation, from Dr.s in Germany every day on the phone. I had an amazing Dr. and Nurse visit Olivia during this time but way too seldom.
Secondly, I’d like start a program that helps hospitals create protected spaces for children with treatment caused low immune systems. Olivia was most motivated when she could act like a normal child. Isolation obviously destroys a child’s moral combined with chemo, irradiation and long hospital stays. This had the most
negative affect on Olivia and many children staying in hospital. She thrived, as we all do, on fresh air and sun on her cheeks. Such a simple thing improves the overall level of happiness and adds to the child’s endurance getting through bouts of treatment.
